JDandCoke Member. Messages 2, Looking for a multipurpose recording device. Primarily to record rehearsals and demos and for taking a line out the desk at gigs. The main use i see for it is personal use at rehearsals, set up the built in xy to capture the room and then close mic myself with a 57 so i can listen back to experimenting with tones etc.

Features wise both of these seem to hit the mark so im really curious about comments on their ruggedness and ease of use. Itll be lugged around in my gig bag and subjected to nornal rigours of gigging. The extra tracks are appealing for demos could take in two guitars, bass, drums on the xy and a vocal scratch track. But we could always overdub onto a 4 track. Anyone used both? Easy enough to setup and get files off etc? Anything i might have overlooked?

Price seems to be about for the h5 and about for the h6. Nevets Silver Supporting Member. Messages 9, I had an H5 and was pretty happy with it.

I chose it over the H6 because the H6 is pretty limited in it’s multi-tracking capabilities. For example the built in mics record to tracks 1 and 2 only, so you can’t use them to record a scratch vocal over top of tracks you’ve already recorded with the mics if that makes sense. After some time I sold the H5 and got the H4n Pro.

They’re all pretty easy to use and well built. If i do decide i want the ability to record 4 track AND room xy, are there better options than the h6? H6 is already pushing the budget so must be same or less price. Messages 1, I’m happy with the h6. I use it for recording ideas at home, and taking individual tracks from my gigs for mixing later. I’ve had a few issues in getting my gain stages set up right But that’s user error, not the fault of the unit.

I looked at some of the other units I paid CAD and it’s one of the better investments I’ve made for creating my own music, and getting a sense of what I should work on in my live shows.

Its also served well as an interface when I needed one on-the-go, or for troubleshooting at home. I didn’t think I would use it like this at all. JDandCoke said:. Click to expand It has built in Mics and while probably not as good as the h5 or h6 they do a solid job.

Works well. The ability to record 8 channels at once is nice. The are larger format but not too big and can run on batteries. Messages I jumped for the h6, had it’s first test at this weeks rehearsal and I was impressed at the separation.

I mean it’s not a high quality recording but it’s better than the garbled mush that we had from iphone recordings previously and everything could be heard clearly. Looking to get some use out of it’s multitrack functions soon! I recently picked up an H6 as well, after pondering which model to get for the longest time.

Being able to plug in up to 6 with the expansion capsule mic sources was one of the reasons I wanted the H6, I can record full band live demos with that. I used it this week to record a live metal show at a local club, the recordings came out great. The color screen is a plus for me as well, I dig it more than the screen on a friend’s H4n I’ve played with. You must log in or register to reply here. Trending Topics. I смотрите подробнее planning to use the Zoom to record acoustic guitar music, which means that most of the time I would be using either the in-built mic or only two XLR inputs for mics.

I am wondering if the H6 is a better quality audio interface than the H5, if I use the zoom as an audio interface? I have heard rumors that using the Нажмите чтобы узнать больше as an audio interface produces recordings that are not as good as the standalone mode would.

But the H6 is good in both the audio interface mode and standalone. And if I record the music directly into the Zoom with 2 external mics standalone modeis the H6 going to produce a better quality recording than the H5? Thank you in advance. My Studio. If you haven’t already, grab the H6. It has a lower noise floor than the H5. James Lehmann. I am currently deciding between the Zoom H5 and H Attached Thumbnails.

I zoom h5 vs zoom h6 – zoom h5 vs zoom h6: plenty of tests with an H5 and an H6 when I was able to get both simultaneously. The preamps were y6:. Surprisingly, the H5 capsules are far, far better-sounding, with a far more linear frequency response than the H6. I did a few tests and this became obvious with voice and acoustic guitar. Surprised, I tested this by comparing a DPA linear mic with each of them in front of a high-end speaker reproducing white noise. The H6 capsules were noticeably worse, especially the MS capsule which honestly is worthless in my opinion.

So if you’re thinking of using the built-in mics, get the H5. It’s cheaper, it sounds better honestly that stereo capsule sounds greatand you won’t be using the 2 extra preamps anyway. However, if you are looking to record using external microphones, then it depends massively whether you are looking to use dynamic or condenser models, 6h: whether you’re genuinely unable to carry a laptop to record.

If you already have mics you wish to use and are able to use a computer to record, get a Motu M2 or Audient iD14 audio interface with a laptop; these are the best two zooom around that price. I just zoom h5 vs zoom h6 – zoom h5 vs zoom h6: use them for acoustic guitar, as the hiss would be very noticeable, especially with a quiet instrument: If you’re using condenser microphones, the difference won’t how to tell if a zoom is a webinar that bad.

But unless you have some, you’ll have to spend as much for a pair as the cost of the H5! The Zoom F4, which was discontinued, has far better preamps, which measure about 8 dB less noise that’s quite a lotso if you want to use external mics then look one of these up in the used market for about the same price. I have an h6 and never tried the h5, but my understanding when I was researching to buy them was that they were very similar, y6: perhaps even identical except for the number of inputs.

I could be wrong though. Edit: one thing I do remember is that zoom has two different models of xy mics, and both work with h5 and hh6. Do they come with different xy models new? The h6 comes with an xy mic zoom h5 vs zoom h6 – zoom h5 vs zoom h6: can change the angle width, as well as a mid side mic.

Zoom doesn’t give any tech specs for these, sadly, but from my testing, the XYH-5 capule sounds quite a zook better than both the H6 capsules. I didn’t check the j5 levels, although since the diaphragm of the capsules is slightly smaller I assume it’s slightly higher.

I still would very much prefer to record with it. How elastic is your budget? Have you considered a used Sound Devices MixPre3? I have a Sound Devices unit here and you can plug any mic, even an SM57, into those preamps and it sounds amazing – not the case with the Zoom! Ah, right. I have found the h6 handy hence the name I guess! It saved me as month ago when my computer and Apollo just decided not to cooperate on a piano recording.

The noise levels I tested showed the H6 capsule to be about the same noise level as the DPA impressive! This is an old post but I’d like to see your results, can you share them again?
